Fisher’s Club Fries

5-C Fry Scale
11 / 25

Here is a distinct charm in the roadside roadhouse—a promise of lakeside views and the kind of meal that has remained unchanged for decades. At Fisher’s Club in Minnesota, the atmosphere is thick with the legacy of a classic supper club. But while the history here is deep, the fries tell a story of a kitchen perhaps a bit too busy with the rest of the menu to focus on the fry basket.

The fries look the part—thick, golden, and boasting a genuinely satisfying snap on the exterior. However, the moment you bite in, the experience falters. While the outside is crisp, the interior is overly soft, leaning into a mushy texture that lacks the fluffy structure of a perfectly timed fry. Compounding this was the temperature; they arrived merely warm, suggesting they may have spent a few too many minutes waiting on the pass.

The most notable distraction, however, was the flavor profile. There was a clear secondary taste—a lingering oil residue that strongly suggested these were fried in oil used for other items on the menu. In a place famous for its variety, this is a common trap. They are respectable for a supper club side, and they certainly fit the aesthetic, but they lack the singular intent required to stand on their own.

These are not bad fries. They are a functional companion to a supper club dinner, serving their purpose in the context of a Minnesota evening, even if they don’t quite earn a place in the fry hall of fame.
